Friday Five: Winter Is Coming – Embrace Mentorship on the Longest Day

Happy Friday Hospitality Hero,

Are any Hospitality Heroes going to a full moon party tonight at the moon tower? Not only is today the longest day of the year, but it’s also a full moon! The next time a full moon and summer solstice will occur at the same time will be June 26th, 2062. I’ll be 87, which is a great reminder that: “Winter is Coming,” and it’s hard to imagine that the days will get shorter starting tomorrow. This week’s podcast and the never-ending passage of time got me reflecting on the importance of mentors on our journeys through life.

The Friday Five

1. This Week's Feature: This week’s conversation with Julie Frank was truly enlightening. She shared insights from her incredible journey and the legendary mentors who have guided her, including Adam Tihany, Brad Wilson, Aliya Khan, Mark Bokenheide, and Kemper Hyers. And let’s not forget Larry Schniad (not a designer, but amazing nonetheless).

2. Memory Lane: Mentorship was a key theme in my conversation with Jim Looney, founder of Looney & Associates. His episode, “Being A Mentor,” highlights how leaders in our industry can significantly impact your journey—just ask!

3. A Dash of Inspiration: Life Goal: Imagine taking one of your mentors on a thank-you trip to stay at Amangiri in Utah to thank them for your journey. It’s a breathtaking way to show appreciation.

4. Journey Shorteners: “The Coaching Habit: Say Less, Ask More & Change the Way You Lead Forever” by Michael Bungay Stanier has profoundly influenced my listening and coaching skills. The three words, “Tell Me More,” have transformed my interviewing approach.

5. Upcoming Industry Events: Below is a list of exciting industry events where we can connect, learn, and grow together. Let's continue to build our hive and support one another on this incredible journey!
