The Friday Five

Don't Forget to Breathe

Defining Hospitality - Friday Five

We recently returned from a rejuvenating multi-family retreat at Onze Retreat Center, nestled in the jungle between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. This wasn't just any getaway; it involved four families, 13 children, and a shared history that stretches back to our own childhoods. Though the plan was just a quick reunion, we embarked on an unexpected journey of breathwork, cold immersion, and a Temazcal ceremony. This experience reminded me of the powerful simplicity of breathing with intention.

This Week's Feature: Hospitality can surprise you unexpectedly, as we discovered at the Onze Retreat Center. What was meant to be a brief "Frousins" (friends, almost cousins) reunion turned into a transformative experience with all of our children (14 of them) guided by on of our incredible hosts, Leon Emmet. Tune in this week to Episode 152 as we discuss a different kind of hospitality that enriched our lives, from the youngest at 10 to the eldest at 49.

Memory Lane: As we gear up for HD Expo next week in Las Vegas, let's revisit my conversation with Stacy Shoemaker Rauen. Appreciating the immense effort behind organizing such an influential and welcoming event that pushes hospitality design forward is crucial. This will take you to a heartfelt thank you to Stacy from episode #22.

A Dash of Inspiration: With summer on the horizon, visions of poolside and seaside leisure are inevitable. Here's a snapshot from the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace, famously featured in 'White Lotus Season 2'. The parasols dotting this pool, which I want to be at right now, were manufactured by Crema Outdoor, one of the leading manufacturers of parasols and cabanas that Agency 967 is proud to represent. It's hard to believe it’s only 31 days until Memorial Day.

Journey Shortener: If you're into systems and processes, you'll appreciate "The E-Myth Revisited" by Michael Gerber. Using a California hotel as a case study, Gerber illustrates how to systematize a founder’s and leader’s passion into teachable, repeatable processes.

Upcoming Industry Events: Catch me at HD Expo in Vegas next week! I'll be around the Valley Forge Fabrics and BERMANFALK booths (#5729). Feel free to drop by or email me (respond to this) to schedule a meet-up. Also, consider signing up for The Lodging Conference in October, and if you're interested in Radical Innovation in NYC this October, where I'll be Emceeing, let me know if you’d like more information.

As you head into the weekend, take a moment for yourself. Whether it’s a deep dive with Wim Hof or a simple five-minute breathing session on YouTube, explore the power of breathing with intention.

Kindly,

Dan Ryan
